about

Hi! 🫡

I’m Hamp.

I like people. People seem to like me too! 🥰

intro

I am a well-rounded software engineer with a large breadth of technical experiences. I find joy working in distributed systems and making the complex simple. I work with stake holders to determine business needs and goals and build from 0 to 1. I take responsibility. I am a human; a mostly normal one.

technobabble

Here is the "is that a programming term or a pokemon" section of things I have experience in.. it’s gonna be long:

Go TypeScript React NATS Kafka Events Services Distributed Systems Postgres Redis gRPC protobuf Docker Containerization Kubernetes Helm Terraform GCP AWS Azure Observability OpenTelemetry GCP AWS Azure Generative AI Observability FinTech Payments eCommerce Inventorying Licensing … and even more 🙃.

soft skills?

To pair with my technical background I also believe my most important work is ensuring those around me are being successful; this is my definition of a force multiplier. But how? Safety and Communication are key. When you’re with me, you’re safe to express your engineering creativity and expect support, not derision. When you’re working on a project with me, you can expect maximum clarity on requirements and engineering path forward.

current fascinations

Just in case you care and we meet, I’d love to discuss

nix - I’m currently obsessed with this functional programming language doubling as a package manager and even operating system. I see amazing use cases to obviate works on my machine and simplifying SDLC flows, especially CI/CD.

nvim - More than just a text editor. I’ve learned more about editting text, lsp’s, formatters, linters, etc… that are often taken for granted by using nvim than I ever would have learned otherwise. Just recently my Vim motion skills/speed have surpassed my prior typing skills. I am also having a lot of fun integrating AI flows into my editor (see CodeCompanion).

khan academy - I’m taking courses at Khan academy because I’ve recently felt my brain rotting and I like my brain. Here’s to keeping it working!

12-factor app - I’m regularly impressed by the density and wisdom in the 12 factors for building applications; it was written a long while back and there are still regularly misses that it addresses with clarity and wth simple implementations.

I look forward to learning about YOU!
